Tanks, Fittings and
Size and location are part of deciding what you need. Is this a
sedan application where you want
to keep the big tank in the rear or a front engine dragster or an altered. Each
has different applications.
Constructing a tank that will perform to your needs you must consider a lot of
different design considerations.
How many returns do you need? What size feed line do I need ? Where do I get the
hardware to build the tank?
We can answer all your tank questions and provide you with the hardware to build
your tank with. Because of the
range of options it is not feasible to discuss them here but we are very happy
to assist you with the correct design
of your fuel tank. Most fuel
tanks for constant flow fuel injection need several ports to return the fuel
back to the tank. There is
usually a minimum of two ports required. As a racer you have several options.
One you can weld on two separate
bungs but for a tidy appearance you must be sure to keep them in line.
Installing the minimum quantity will allow you to provide for your needs, today. Many times later there is a desire to add
an extra port or two for more
returns as your fuel system gets a little more complicated.
If you install the
minimum number required then you
have no expansion room without removing the tank and adding more ports. If you
add at least one more port than
is necessary today and just plug it up until it is needed. We have made several
different size billet weld bung
blocks. We make both three and four hole and both dash 6 and dash 8 sizes plus
blank threaded ones that allow
you to drill and tap the sizes you want. For appearance sake we make both the
profiled and the straight side billet weld bung blocks to suit any customers’ needs.

any three of the billet weld bung blocks on one order. A lot of
race car fuel tanks use the 1 ¼” supply hose. This size is used because it has
flows that are adequate for
everything up to Top Fuel and at 1 ¼” common radiator hose which is methanol
compatible is inexpensive and
readily available. Below is a weld nipple for your fuel tank that has an anti cavitation plate made into the top of
the nipple. When this nipple is used in the tank it provides a certain amount
of protection to prevent cavitation
from when the pump draws the fuel from the tank it can also create a low
pressure area in the fuel that can vortex into a path for the pump to draw air.

Water or trans overflow
All catch tanks come with 1/4"npt drain port in the
bottom and a 1/8" fill port and a 1/8" vent port in the top. Bracket welded to
the side provides easy mounting option. Mounting is with 1/4" bolts.

Prices are in AUD which is Austrailan dollars. How this currentcy exchanges with
other nations vairies on a daily basis but usually on by a cent or so. Today the
exchange rate with the US dollar is .79 which means if something costs 100.00
AUD then you can purchase it with 79.00 US dollars.
The threads in the billet bung blocks are SAE 0-ring design typical of most race
applications. Currently as an off the shelf item we do not offer other thread
options. In special applications we can custom make almost any thread that you
may need. Some of these are NPT (National Pipe Taper) or BSP (British Standard

insure our SAE o-ring billet bung blocks have the correct dimensions for the SAE
o-ring fitting all surfaces for the fitting are cut with a custom made form tool
insuring all the dimensions are accurate and correct.
Because all the ports are located on one block spacing and alignment problems
are not a problem. Having all the ports on a single block also makes the
installation much more robust as well.
is recommended to install at least one more port than you think you will need.
You can install a plug to block off the unused port initially but there is a
good chance once you start racing you will find that you need an extra port in
the future. If you don’t then it was just insurance. If you do aren’t you glad
you put one in when you built the tank. You will only regret it if you don’t
put an extra port in.
Size is another consideration. Unless you are locked into a port size by
hardware design then it is recommended to use the larger port. Stepping down
from a larger port to a smaller fitting is usually no problem but if you have to
go the other way using a large hose and fitting and stepping down to a smaller
port can cause restriction problems that could have been avoided with a larger
port and fitting.
Don’t forget the drain. Here is a place you probably do only need one port.
Pick the lowest spot or the corner that would be the lowest if the vehicle was
being maintained or stored. Not much use draining the tank if you don’t get it
I started building race cars in
Getting the right hardware to
construct your race car from can often be a challenge. In the beginning we just
wanted to build cars and not have to make all the fiddly bits. As it turned out
As fabricators we searched for
high quality hardware to create our products from and were frequently
disappointed. Our only solution was to make our own hardware. The problem was
that the volume we needed did not support the quantities required to make our
own hardware at prices that fit the application. In other words if we needed 20
of an item per year to get the price right we would have to make a 20 year
supply. This is not cost effective.
WE decided to change our focus
and make the products that we want to use and offer these products to others.
A fabricator can do very nice
work but the finished product will have a nicer finish if the fittings used to
construct the product have a good finish.
We have manufactured tanks for
customers of a long time and there are some applications that do not need the
detail that race car hardware needs. For this applications we have created some
items that do work well but some might say are not race car hardware but never
the less work very well.
